Out and about

February 7th, 2010

Work’s been keeping me rather busy lately, but I have managed to steal away a few weekends for some partying. First, there was Jen’s 21st at Cafe Amore.

Followed by a night on the town with the Cat crew:

20100206_OutOnTheTownFunny story: The couple in the lower-right corner thought I was the official club photographer from the gear I was carrying. They asked for their picture to be taken, and I thought they were part of the friends group. It was only afterwards that we worked out what happened! Since it was a nice picture anyway, I took their details and emailed them a copy :)

Fun with Time Lapse Photography

January 25th, 2010

It all started with a plan to prank Katie’s desk while she was away from the office. I wanted to capture a time-lapse of the action, and needed to work out how to use the software which comes with my camera.

Once I’d successfully worked out how to do it, I decided to get a bit more creative…

It’s quite fun, and also rewarding to see the final results of a process which can take a long time.

Victor Harbour

Lauren and I spent a long weekend in Goolwa to catch some waves and chill out. On the way back to Adelaide we passed through Victor Harbour, and I snapped this panorama.

My new ride…

December 5th, 2009

The past couple of months have been quite busy with work/friends – so much so, that I haven’t had time for photography. Before the wedding(s) last weekend, I hadn’t taken any photos for two months. That’s huge!

So today I decided to brush off my camera, and introduce my new baby.

It’s a 2006 Honda Scoopy! I bought it secondhand for a great price, and I’ve been using it to zip to work and back.

The timing was excellent, because my local train station will be closed for four months for track work. It’s also very economical, considering I used to spend $30 a week on Multitrip train tickets, but now I’m only spending $3 a week on fuel. ;-)

Super cheap and super fun!

Wedding Weekend!

December 5th, 2009

Last weekend I attended the weddings of two pairs of dear friends; Mary & Leigh, and Jess & Stephen.

Mary and Leigh’s wedding was first up, and it was a Greek Orthodox wedding. I’d never been to one before, and it was very different to other weddings I’ve seen! I really enjoyed myself, and had a blast watching them celebrate their new vows. :)

Later in the day was Jess and Stephen’s wedding, starting at the Zoo, then continuing to Outer Harbor for the reception. The locations were great, and the atmosphere was very festive!

It was a great weekend, with lots of drinks and laughs. Congratulations again to the happy couples!

Adelaide Zombie Walk 2009

October 10th, 2009

Saturday night was the annual “Zombie Walk”, where over 1000 zombie fans rallied together in the city to show some zombie love. Everyone comes dressed in a zombie costume, and shuffles and groans their way through the city centre before ending up at a pub for some beer (and BRAAAIIINNNSSSS).

As usual it was a lot of fun.

I was quite proud of this year’s costume, because rather than just spraying blood on myself and calling it “zombie”, I actually had a story behind my character ;) hehe.

My character had a struggle with a zombie first (hence the torn shirt sleeve and pocket) and was bitten on the neck – the bite that turned him. :D

The blood on the shirt was made from mixing acrylic paint (red, brown and black) with corn flour and water, and doing two layers of “pour” from the neck – a lighter layer, and then a darker layer.

My neck wound was liquid latex layered with tissue (thanks Ben!), torn open, then painted with the leftover blood, and edged with stage blood.

At the end of the night, we had a few drinks with the rest of the zombies at Enigma, checked out Tommy’s art show at Cranka, and then chilled at Eddie’s for a few quiet ones before heading home.

Trip to Pooch Park

October 5th, 2009

For those of you who haven’t met my dog before, this is my Husky, Axis:

The weekend before last, Lauren and I took Axis to “Pooch Park” on Findon Rd. It’s a special fenced-in park which allows dogs to be let off-leash to run around and interact with other dogs.

It was the first time Axis has been “socialised” with other dogs (well, excluding the time Owen brought his Great Dane over while Axis was still a puppy) and I was pleased that he didn’t try to hump/kill any other dogs.

He had an absolute blast running around at his own pace. If you want a Husky-to-human analogy, imagine giving red cordial to an ADHD kid and then letting him run around in Magic Mountain without restriction. That’s how much fun he had.

Surprisingly, once he burnt off all that energy, he was also a lot more obedient!

We now make weekly trips to Pooch Park with Axis. What a fantastic place. :)

Japan Holiday 2009

October 2nd, 2009

Well, it’s that time of year again – when I pack my bags and go on an international adventure!

It all started with a couple days stopover in Malaysia. Would you believe it, on my VERY FIRST DAY in Malaysia, I was conned into attempting a Rubik’s Cube speed record ON STAGE in a shopping centre!

20080805_Malaysia_01

You see, I was checking out a friend playing guitar at an Indie Youth Festival. There were lots of youth games and activities, including a Rubik’s Cube competition. And I happened to be wearing my Rubik’s Cube shirt!! What are the chances? Haha. Of course I *had* to enter.

That’s when I found out I was also the only contestant. And the MC introduced me by saying, “I hear we have a Rubik’s Cube GENIUS in the house today! He’s gonna set a record ON STAGE WOOOO!” :|

I didn’t do too well because it was a crappy imitation cube which kept jamming. I got a time of 2 minutes, which isn’t TOO bad, but there was someone the day before who got 1:40 on a similar crappy cube. I was beaten. Ah well. It was fun!! :-) Apparently there will be a video on youtube later, too! Hhaha.

But anyway, I was only in Malaysia a couple days before heading off to the Land of the Rising Sun!

Keen readers may remember that this is not my first time in Japan. I spent the first few days catching up with friends, and doing a bit of sightseeing…. but the real reason I was there was Summer Sonic 2009 ;)

20080808_Japan_02

The lineup this year included Nine Inch Nails, Maximum the Hormone, Linkin Park, Beyonce, Limp Bizkit, the Flaming Lips, Placebo, Mutemath, the Band Apart, and Gogol Bordello – just to name a few of my favourites.

It totally kicked ass. One of the best festivals I’ve ever been to.

Once the 3-day concert epic was over, I visited Nagoya for the first time (which was nice :) ) and also experienced a maid cafe for the first time.

20080808_Japan_03

After all the fun of Japan (and nearly missing my train to the airport – had to catch the very first bullet train of the morning and then make a 7-minute change from bullet train to airport express, running, while carrying 20kg suitcase) I headed back to Malaysia for another week or so of food and catching up with friends.

20080808_Malaysia_01

It was an awesome trip, and I can’t wait to go back. I miss the Japan lifestyle a lot (although maybe I wouldn’t miss it if I were a part of the working culture) and it sucks coming back to somewhere so cold after being somewhere so warm! Still, it’s good to be back. :)

The Real MOSS Pie

August 3rd, 2009

Anyone who works with SharePoint knows about the “MOSS Pie.” If you don’t know what a MOSS pie is, try a Google image search.

My stupendous girlfriend Lauren baked me a MOSS Pie cake for my “breakup” lunch, which was celebrating the end of a long and successful work contract, as well as my last lunch with the team before I leave on holidays.

Haha. It’s a real MOSS Pie! As my friend Owen pointed out, I mustn’t like “Process” very much because I started hacking away at that slice first. Haha. ;-) Thanks Lauren!
