Well, it’s that time of year again – when I pack my bags and go on an international adventure!
It all started with a couple days stopover in Malaysia. Would you believe it, on my VERY FIRST DAY in Malaysia, I was conned into attempting a Rubik’s Cube speed record ON STAGE in a shopping centre!

You see, I was checking out a friend playing guitar at an Indie Youth Festival. There were lots of youth games and activities, including a Rubik’s Cube competition. And I happened to be wearing my Rubik’s Cube shirt!! What are the chances? Haha. Of course I *had* to enter.
That’s when I found out I was also the only contestant. And the MC introduced me by saying, “I hear we have a Rubik’s Cube GENIUS in the house today! He’s gonna set a record ON STAGE WOOOO!”
I didn’t do too well because it was a crappy imitation cube which kept jamming. I got a time of 2 minutes, which isn’t TOO bad, but there was someone the day before who got 1:40 on a similar crappy cube. I was beaten. Ah well. It was fun!!
Apparently there will be a video on youtube later, too! Hhaha.
But anyway, I was only in Malaysia a couple days before heading off to the Land of the Rising Sun!

Keen readers may remember that this is not my first time in Japan. I spent the first few days catching up with friends, and doing a bit of sightseeing…. but the real reason I was there was Summer Sonic 2009

The lineup this year included Nine Inch Nails, Maximum the Hormone, Linkin Park, Beyonce, Limp Bizkit, the Flaming Lips, Placebo, Mutemath, the Band Apart, and Gogol Bordello – just to name a few of my favourites.
It totally kicked ass. One of the best festivals I’ve ever been to.
Once the 3-day concert epic was over, I visited Nagoya for the first time (which was nice
) and also experienced a maid cafe for the first time.

After all the fun of Japan (and nearly missing my train to the airport – had to catch the very first bullet train of the morning and then make a 7-minute change from bullet train to airport express, running, while carrying 20kg suitcase) I headed back to Malaysia for another week or so of food and catching up with friends.

It was an awesome trip, and I can’t wait to go back. I miss the Japan lifestyle a lot (although maybe I wouldn’t miss it if I were a part of the working culture) and it sucks coming back to somewhere so cold after being somewhere so warm! Still, it’s good to be back.
